The holidays are quickly approaching and we at Discount Fabric Warehouse have teamed up with Hawai’i Care Choices (previously known as Hospice of Hilo) to collect homemade lap blankets that will be included in care packages for new Hospice patients.
Throughout the month of November, Big Island sewists can drop off completed lap blankets at either of our stores (Hilo or Kona) and give a little bit of joy to someone.
We ask that blankets be no smaller than 30″x40″, which is a wonderful size for wheelchair users. Otherwise, there are no requirements on size or design.
A Note From Hawai’i Care Choices:
Lani of Hawai’i Care Choices wanted to leave a short note:
At Hawaii Care Choices, formerly Hospice of Hilo, it’s our mission to bring comfort to those suffering with terminal illness. Something as simple as a blanket often provides untold comfort and peace to the patient during their final days of life.
Blankets are often made with so much love and compassion that the recipients say they can feel that love, and some ask to be buried with their beloved blanket. Others, pass their blankets on to a new born grandchild as a parting gift. These blankets are very special and often treated as heirlooms by the patients. Not because they are made with the most expensive material, but because they are made with LOVE. We are humbly seeking lap blankets throughout the month of November to be presented to our endearing hospice patients.
